FASHION DIVERSION:
Hi, and happy Monday, kind-a-sort-a? So the world's gone mad and this virus is real and it's scary. At this point we've all experienced empty store shelves and lessons on washing our hands. Don't touch your face, I still touch my face, I'm such a face toucher, don't breathe, don't move. I just keep hearing my Mothers voice saying "this too shall pass". And it will, hopefully leaving us a little wiser in our choices. So I'm interrupting the fears (including my own) to bring you some adorable, affordable, accessories for spring. Just hover over the product to shop! Because spring will come and we will all be alright!
THE CAPSULE WARDROBE:
Hey lovelies! It's time again for my annual Drab to Fab Challenge test! If you have done this before, do it again for an update! And if you're new here, this will help you hone in on your style:
Look in the mirror right now, yes, right now! (unless you are in your pj's) And ask yourself this very telling question ~ "If I saw a women on the street today wearing what I am wearing right now would I think she looked fabulous or would I send her back to the closet?" If the answer is send her back, take off that outfit and throw it in the charity pile.
Think you don't know your own style? Think again. Do you have a style board on Pinterest? Look at what you're pinning, do you dog ear or tear sheets from magazines of looks you like? Do you envy that co-worker who always looks so put together in simple pieces but you're wearing pink and purple polka dots? Look at what your eyes are drawn to all around you. This is your style.
I gravitate to black, stripes and neutrals but don't be discouraged by my examples if you're a bright colored print kinda girl, the basic principle is the same. You would take that favorite floral blouse of yours and match it to a skirt, pant, jeans, blazer and cardigan and have several different looks! Yup, it's that simple.
When you look at the pieces themselves in the top half of the picture, they don't look like much, then see how many different looks so little can create, it's pretty genius! And think of all the extra space you'll have in the closet. Oh and the accessories are not counted, because come on, a girl can never have to many accessories, just sayn'.

First, the obvious, we all have to many clothes. But if we took our really favorite pieces, the ones we wear all the time, which I'm guessing all match (and fit), mine do, I can see that I could take my pieces, and mix them differently every day and have a different outfit for every day of the week, maybe even a month, based on ten-twelve pieces. So do we throw out everything else? No, not realistic, especially when you consider seasons, events, weight, etc. I've never been good at purging, although I am trying to get good at it, because it really is just easier with less. Notice when you're on a trip, you bring as little as possible and mix and match.
Less is more! For example, I have way to many pairs of black leggings I use for working out, some of which I admit should be in the rag pile, but instead are in my drawer. Last week I grabbed a pair for yoga. When I got to class and sat cross legged on my mat I realized I had grabbed a bad pair with a big hole, guess where!?! Try getting through a yoga class with your legs closed. UG! I came home and purged, and honestly, I love it now that I have 4 pairs of good black leggings, not 20 pairs of the good, the bad and the ugly. And that's that. Now for the rest of my wardrobe. It's a process.
I pulled together these great examples of capsule wardrobes from Pinterest so you can see how this works and what I discovered is that it's really just the old fashioned MIX N' MATCH!

BINGE OR BUDGET:
Binge or budget with the basics today, perfect for a casual weekend. The tote is what really puts this binge over the $$$$ edge. It's beautiful, it's Celine and it's $1,200. There are lots of less expensive alternatives out there, but of course if you can afford the Celine... nah, I was going to say go for it but I couldn't bring myself to do it, even if there's drool on my chin.

TODAY IN THE CLOSET: NEW DESIGNER COLLABS
There's news! Once again some top designers, (and an actress), have felt the need to offer the masses, (that's us), their fashion inspiration. Halle Berry has revamped an 80 year old french lingerie line called Scandale Paris and turned it into an affordable line of undies for Target. This line is beautiful and with bras selling at $17 it is definitely worth a look!
Alexander Wang for H&M is due to hit stores and their on line site on November 6th. I was excited when I heard, then I saw the look book preview and, not so excited. If your style is really edgy then this line is definitely for you, it's a very sharp work-out to street look with kind of a space age over tone. As my mother would say, not my cup of tea, but if it's yours, be prepared to wait in line.
Thank goodness my daughter is all grown up because I'd have to staple my wallet shut over this one. Kate and Jack Spade for GapKids! Be still my heart the bow dress in a mini me! Prices from $9.95 - $130. Does it get any cuter?!?

Anyone ever tell you to 'dress your age?' You may just want to tell them to get back to the closet! A while back I wrote a post on Fashion Ageism, Friend or Foe, after hearing women say 'I'm too old for that', one too many times, so on that note....
Meet Linda Rodin, a fashion stylist and entrepreneur. Don't tell Linda there's an age limit to style! When she couldn't find an oil that suited her skin she made her own blend, Olio Lusso, and the beauty product line Rodin was born. She rarely styles celebrities (although she's always getting requests) because she says they don't know what they like. Linda herself clearly has no identity crisis. Her hair started getting white when she was 35 and she liked it that way. And as you can see by her outfit choices, at 66, she follows her own rules. Although personally, you will never see me with gray hair, (even when I'm 100, no, never), I love her freedom to be who she is, wear what she loves and be true to herself in all her fabulousness!

It may be too soon for a roaring fire and a mug of hot chocolate but it's never to soon to shop your own closet and take stock of what you have, what you should toss and what you need to fill in with to make this your fall to look fabulous!

If you're a Sex in the City fan you will surely recognize this iconic Manolo Blahnik from the movie when Price Charming, AKA BIG, slid this gorgeous place holder for a diamond on Carrie's Cinderella foot. Still available at Bergdorf Goodman. I visited it on my last trip to NY while taking cover from an impending storm. Not a bad place to hide out, Bergdorf's shoe dept.
