TODAY OUTSIDE THE CLOSET:

THE 2012 CRYSTAL & LUCY AWARDS

Tuesday evening I was fortunate enough to be in attendance for this years Crystal and Lucy Awards.  This event is Women In Films biggest annual fundraiser.  I am proud to be a part of this organization and a committee member as well.

Sometimes it's not just the honorees that get our (my) heart to flutter but the friends of said honorees who show up to present these prestigious awards to their BFF's.  So let's cut to the chase... MERYL STREEP was in the room!  I love Viola Davis and she was being awarded The Crystal Award for her work in film and her speech was amazing, but when Meryl Streep is in the room...ummm, yeah.  This women is so genuinely nice and gracious that we all felt as if we were no longer in the Ballroom at The Beverly Hilton but rather in Meryls living room!  Her speech was so uplifting, that I'm still floating on her inspirational words and it's already Thursday afternoon!

Best take away was when she quoted Alice Walker -  “The most common way women give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.”

My friend Karolyn got this awesome picture, Viola was saying how she was 'ordinary' and Meryil jumped in to object.

Although over the last few years the statistics on women's jobs in the film industry has continued to be a dismal percentage compared to men, the five top grossing movies in the last five years were all spear headed by women, so world, get a clue!  And that was the theme of the evening, 'POWER IN NUMBERS' in a room full of very powerful women from in front of and behind the camera.

Now on to fashion!  For the past eleven years Italian Designer Max Mara has been one of the favorite sponsors of this event and dressed the presenters and honorees in elegant style. Represented by  Nicola  Maramotti (Max Mara is her family business) she was as gorgeous as always.  Of course she's tall, thin and blond, kind of a no brainer!
